Vacation Rentals in Grand Cayman
Christopher and I just got back from a seven night stay in Grand Cayman. This was a super last minute trip for us. We were actually supposed to be in Kauai but had to cancel last minute due to their terrible floods. So, we booked a last minute trip to Grand Cayman. When I say last minute, we booked like a week in advance. The question I have gotten over and over again is why didn’t you just go to Turks and Caicos. My answer is that the plane tickets that last minute were crazy high. After having to cancel Hawaii, we decided we would just to go to the caribbean. The tickets to Grand Cayman last minute were reasonable. So, that is where we started looking.
When we booked to Grand Cayman, we were pretty much clueless. At this point, we had researched Kauai backwards and forwards and had everything planned out. Apparently the good Lord was trying to tell us to stay away from Hawaii. First they had the terrible floods and then the volcano erupted on the Big Island…scary stuff to say the least.
Booking a trip to somewhere other than Turks and Caicos was a little sad. I mean, we love to travel and see new places. However, there are only a few other places in the caribbean that we have discussed going which includes the Exumas and the Virgin Islands. Other than that, we have no other places (caribbean wise) that are like bucket list travel destinations for us. We feel like we have found the best already – Turks and Caicos. So, booking Grand Cayman was a very random trip for us.
The Deciding Factor
The reason we chose to book last minute was because my husband had already planned work around our Hawaii trip. We thought it was much easier to keep those same dates. The night we found Grand Cayman we were just looking at Google Flights. I looked at some pictures of the island and read a few reviews. My husbands parents and a friend of ours had been to Grand Cayman on a cruise. Both of them said they were less than impressed. We had another friend who had stayed at the Marriott on the island and said he liked it. So, these were the opinions we had to go off of. Although, I think you miss out on so much when you cruise to an island vs stay there.
When looking at the island and trying to find a place to stay…I kept reading that the resort areas can get crazy busy due to the cruise ships that come in. Also, some of the resorts were crazy expensive and some had not so good reviews. This is when I turned to VRBO. I found Windsong Villas through VRBO.
The reviews of Windsong Villas is what made our mind up to go ahead and just book to Grand Cayman vs keep looking. Our expectations were not that high…if I am being honest. I mean…Turks and Caicos is “our place” and it is hard to beat in our opinion. However, as I said, the reviews of Windsong Villas were amazing. Not only did everyone compliment the actual condos, but the beach. One person even compared this beach area to Turks and Caicos. I will admit…I thought no way…but it made me feel good that perhaps it would come close and we would enjoy our trip and that it wouldn’t be a super let down.
The Windsong Villas
We booked a Windsong Villa through VRBO. Julie, the owner was super nice and very easy to work with. She responded quickly to any questions that I had. The villas are in safe, gated area just across the road from the beach. Just across the road from the beach…WHAT…that one statement stopped me a couple of times. It almost made me freak out a little bit. I mean…when Christopher and I go to the beach…we actually go to the beach…alot. We practically stay there all day long. So, when I’m at the beach…I want to be right on the beach…not across the road.
However, again, after reading reviews I dealt with the fact that we were across the road and hoped that it would be fine. Let me tell you…you are closer to the beach in this villa than you are at most resorts. The beach is literally less than two minutes. You walk out of the front gate towards your right. There is a gate on your left. This gate leads to the beach. It is literally super short. So, do not let this scare you like it did me. My mind was immediately eased once we got there and saw how short the walk actually was.
All of the villas have a key to the gate. However, there is a security guy that sits at the gate in case you do not have your key. No, the security guy is not there because it is unsafe. He is just there to maintain the gate.
Anyway, back to the villas…there only four villas that make up Windsong. So, what this means is that you are away from the crowds. There is a small, very quaint little pool at Windsong. It is small but perfect. The landscaping is beautiful and well maintained. The bottom two villas walk right out onto the patio area of the pool…which I loved. The top two units overlook the pool.
In Grand Cayman there are chickens EVERYWHERE. As you can see, they wonder around the yard. You may also see them at the grocery store, at dinner, and pretty much anywhere else you go.
Inside Windsong Villas
The inside of the Windsong Villas is equally as nice as the outside. The villas are each three bedrooms and two bathrooms. They include a living room, kitchen, a small dining space, a laundry room, and a patio or balcony, depending on the room you get. We stayed in Unit 1. Each unit has nice granite countertops and tile showers. Everything is updated. Not only is everything updated but everything is clean.
The kitchen has everything you need to cook meals in the room. There is a grill out back if you want to grill while you are there.
The bathrooms have shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, and a blow dryer. Oh, and toilet paper of course. The master bathroom has double sinks and a large shower. The second bath has a single sink and a large shower.
The laundry room has laundry detergent as well as your normal things like an iron and ironing board.
The bedrooms are spacious with nice bedding and a comfy mattress. The third bedroom is a bit smaller and our unit had two twin beds in the third bedroom space.
The living room has a comfy sofa and chairs as well as a large flat screen TV.
When I say that Julie thought of everything…she really thought of everything. Outside in the storage room is a selection of beach chairs, umbrellas, floats, and even a cooler so that you do not have to bring your own.
The patio or balcony has table and chairs which we used daily. Again, this place really has everything you need.
Amenities at Windsong Luxury Villas
As I mentioned above, Windsong has a nice small pool that each villa overlooks. If you are on the bottom floors you can just walk right out to the pool…which I loved. It felt super private. If you are on the second level you will overlook the pool. The pool has some pretty features that light up and change colors at night. The lounge chairs at the pool are super comfy and nice. Also, the pool temperature was perfect for someone like me who is always cold and hates cold water.
We enjoyed going to the pool and hanging out for about an hour each afternoon (after our long beach days). The pool in the late afternoon was very peaceful and relaxing. You can hear the ocean from the pool…oh and some birds and chickens. Not only do you have a pool to use, but also complimentary paddle boards and kayaks. I like to paddle board but I never did on this trip.
Christopher did a couple of times, however, although it is a super short walk to the beach…he says it seems alot longer when you have to carry a paddle board. So, he used them a couple of times but that was it. They were certainly nice to have if you wanted them. Again, each villas has beach chairs. You can strap them on your back like a backpack and were super lightweight and easy to carry. We took two chairs and an umbrella to the beach daily.
If you like to snorkel, Julie has snorkel equipment that you can rent. We have our own so we did not have to use hers.
Location and Beach
As I mentioned above, the villas are across the street. Windsong Villas are located on a super quite, residential road – Boggy Sands Road. There was practically no traffic in this area while we were there. There was not one time that we had to wait for traffic in order to cross to go to the beach. The beach area is in the northern area of Seven Mile Beach and is actually Boggy Sands Beach. It is about 5 minutes from Cemetery Beach.
When reading reviews I read this was one of the prettiest sections of Seven Mile Beach and I will have to agree. We saw several beaches up and down seven mile and this was the best. Oh, and the best part, we had it to ourselves. No cruise crowds or anything like that. Most days we saw less that ten people all day.
Her rates are completely comparable to everywhere on the island. We hated that we wasted so much space in this large condo. There were two bedrooms untouched. If we had another couple or two to go, the rooms would have been super affordable.
If we ever go back to Grand Cayman…I will stay at Windsong. The rooms are nice and the beach for this area is great. What else could you ask for? I know some people like the “resort” thing. However, if you are into smaller crowds…this is your place. If you have a family…this is your place. Grand Cayman is expensive. If you are bringing your family you will appreciate having kitchen so that you can actually prepare some meals in the room (to save some money).

Again, I have nothing but good things to say about Windsong Luxury Villas. Over the next couple of weeks I will be writing about my opinion of the island, activities, and places to eat. Stay tuned!
