I’ve been a little MIA lately…well actually I’ve pretty much not been present at all and have taken quite a break. Back in the fall we found out we were PREGNANT. It happened a little sooner than expected but we are so very excited to be adding to our family. Of course we are nervous, excited, anxious…all those emotions that go into being first time parents.
We found out we were expecting back in October. However, we kept it a complete secret from EVERYONE until Christmas. We figured announcing it at Christmas would be perfect timing. I chose not to do a gender reveal or anything like that. However, Christopher and I did a little gender reveal of our own. We did the genetic testing and so we knew what we were having by 12 weeks. Therefore, when we announced to our family and friends that we were having a baby we also got to announce the gender.

Announcing to Our Families and Friends
Our families were quite shocked as they all thought we were never going to have kids because we have been married so long and like to go and do our own things…and travel…and such. However, we always planned to have kids but never really wanted kids in our 20s. Instead, we wanted to be a little older and in our 30s. I will be 32 when I deliver so it worked out perfectly for us and what we have always wanted.
For my parents we wrapped the sonogram and the paper that told the gender in a regular box with Christmas wrapping and randomly gave it to my sister on the way to church the Sunday before Christmas. My sister opened, missed the sonogram, and just saw the gender and was confused for a minute and finally got it. My momma asked “what is it” five minutes later because she was still confused and my daddy I think was a little shocked as was my sister – but all so excited.
For his parents, Christopher taped the sonogram to a Dave Matthews DVD and wrapped it and gave it to his sister (she’s 18). She likes to sit in the corner quietly and open her gifts so we never said a word or made it a big deal when she opened the gift. When she opened it she completely missed the sonogram and wanted to know why he gave her a Dave Matthews DVD. It took her boyfriend figuring out what was on the front of it and then his parents were confused as to who’s sonogram it was…needless to say they finally got it and were excited. We let his parents do their own little gender reveal and had two bottles of silly string wrapped in black duck tape. They sprayed the silly string to figure out the gender.
BOY or GIRL?
It is funny because I went and picked up our gender results and then went to my favorite local bakery and asked them if they could do me two double doozies…you know the chocolate chip cookies with buttercream icing…with a dollop of pink or blue in the center. They granted my request and did it on the spot. They were the first ones to know we were pregnant and the gender…well outside of us and the Dr. Christopher had no idea I had gotten the call that the results were ready or that I had gotten us two double doozies (his favorite) for our own little private gender reveal. I had the two cookies sitting on the counter for when he got home that afternoon.
After getting home we had a debate on whether or not we were going to have supper and then eat the cookies for dessert or eat the cookies first. Well…we had dessert before dinner because we couldn’t wait. We each wrote down on a piece of paper what we each thought the gender was going to be and then ate our cookies. I must add in that I was right on what the gender was and he was wrong!! Although…I’m pretty sure he is happy that he was wrong. I honestly didn’t care either way.
Once we bit into the cookies we immediately saw hints of BLUE. That moment is when we found out that we were HAVING A BABY BOY!!! He was in shock because he was convinced it was a girl.

I am currently 20 weeks and everything is going great. We just went for our anatomy scan (which I was totally nervous about) and everything looked perfect. We were able to confirm the gender even though the blood tests are completely accurate – or so they say. He was moving all over the place and looks like he has huge feet. We are so very blessed and I pray that everything continues to go well.
Lily is used to being the baby of the house and so I know she will have some adjusting to do. We have already gotten the nursery over half finished so I have made sure to put her own bed in there so she feels comfortable.
The pictures of the three of us shown in this post were quite hard to get. Lily looks terrified in them and after we finally got some that we good we figured out that Christopher was holding the sonogram picture upside down. So, we tried and got the best that we could. It is always funny to think about how we go about doing things and trying to get the best pictures and all that good stuff. If only someone was in the background filming how we go about getting things like these pictures…it would be pretty entertaining.
So, over the next several months expect to see all things (well mostly) pregnancy and baby related.
