Swimsuit season is fast approaching. Have you bought your first swimsuit yet? I am guilty. As a matter of fact I purchased my first one at the beginning of January. I was in Target and swimsuits were out. If you are in Target and they have swimsuits, you must buy one. Right?
If I am being honest, I pretty much look at swimwear year around. I even ask for gift cards to Victoria’s Secret so that I can buy a new swimsuit the following summer. No, I do not love swimsuits because I like the way I look in them, that is for sure. Yet, it is more because getting into a swimsuit means sand, water, and sunshine. Those things I do love.
I am going to share with you my favorite swimsuits of this season so far and some of my favorites from last year. Sometimes you buy a swimsuit that you just cannot part with. These are my go to swimsuits. The swimsuits that I keep for years and years.
Black and Glamourous
For the past year I have searched for a swimsuit that was glamorous and comfortable. I wanted a swimsuit that was chic but also one that I could paddle board and enjoy beach activities in.
This swimsuit is just that. I went shopping in Jackson, MS this past weekend. When I walked into Altar’d State, I knew this was the swimsuit I had been searching for. I love black so of course the color was perfect. The crotchet detailing was perfect. The price was perfect. This swimsuit checked all the boxes.
The next thing was “does it fit?” I tried it on and loved it immediately. I purchased The Laguna Beach Crotchet Swim Top in small and a medium in the Remix Wide Crochet Detail Swim Bottoms. The small bottoms were a little tight. I always buy small bottoms in Victoria’s Secret. I have somewhat of a big booty for my waist so I like to keep that covered.
It you are a size small in Victoria’s Secret but have a little junk in your trunk I suggest going up to a medium. If not, I think the small would be fine for you. I do not like the bottoms of a swimsuit to be too tight as I feel like my skin hangs over and looks nasty.
Again, I am weird about light color swimsuits. I always feel like no matter what, when light colors get wet, you can see straight through them. I like to keep my girl parts hidden.
Dark and Grey
This swimsuit is one of my all time favorites. I bought it on clearance at Victoria’s Secret. I purchased the gray strapless top and a pair of black bottoms. The top was pricey so when I found it on sale I knew I had to buy it.
The swimsuit top and the black bottoms were from two different collections. I was not sure if they would look good together. Yet, when I got them in the mail they looked perfect. I like to mix and match things but do not like for them to look mixed and matched if that makes sense. It is comfortable and the grey and black look great with a tan.
The top is strapless but it has under wire and support so it actually stays up. Some strapless swimsuits make me feel uncomfortable. Some do not stay up and one wrong move will cause some boob exposure.
The black bottoms are The Knockout Bikini bottoms. My black bottoms are a size small. I love these bottoms because they have the ruching on the side and are not so skimpy and small.
I remember going in Victoria’s Secret last year and all the bottoms were tiny. Most covered little to no booty. The nice lady at the Victoria Secret store went to the back and came out with this pair of bottoms. I snatched them up because she told me finding a pair with coverage was a difficult task.
A classic pair of black bottoms can be paired with so many different tops. You can have many different swimsuits by just changing the top.
Purple and Perfect
The Adjustable Bralette top from Victoria’s Secret has also become one of my favorites. It is flattering when you do not have a lot to offer up top. I would not suggest this top for large breasted girls as they may fall out. I, a small breasted girl, do not quite have that problem.
This top buckles in the back and ties around the neck and has thin padding. This year they do not offer this in purple but instead in many other different colors. I am in love with the leapard print so this may be my next buy. Oh, and the leopard print will go with my black bottoms.
I purchased this top last year in purple and I love it. I pair it with my black Knockout Bikini Bottoms. Buying many tops that will match my black bottoms is something I often do. This way, I get many different swimsuits without buying an entire new suit every single time. I just change out the tops.
Tasteful and Teal
This particular swimsuit is also from last year. I received a ton of compliments each time I wore this swimsuit. The ruffles and the back detailing is what makes this swimsuit stand out.
The top buckles in the front and has soft, thin padding. Each strap has ruffles and it has double-back straps which makes it super cute. The top is flattering for small breasted women like me.
Again, this top may not be a good choice for large breasted women because of the way that it fits. If you are larger breasted I would suggest going up at least a size to have the proper amount of coverage. Unfortunately, I could not find this swim top on Victoria’s Secret.
Next, I love these Ruffle Cheeky Bottoms. They are some of my favorite bottoms from Victoria’s Secret. The ruffle detailing and stitching up the back side is just adorable. I like how the bottoms are not tight against your skin. Thus, they do not push against the side of my hips and into my stomach.
Aztec and Amazing
In January I was in Target and they were putting swimsuits on the shelves so I snagged up this little treasure. I loved the back of this swimsuit because it had some nice detailing.
When I first picked it up I was not sure if I would like the bottoms. I am super weird about bottoms with sides like this. They have to fit perfectly or I will not buy them. These did not disappoint. They are the perfect amount of “tight” and “loose.”
The top is somewhat low cut and offers thin padding. There are no buckles or straps so it slides right over your head. It is super comfortable and so flattering.
The detailing on this particular swimsuit is what sold me. This Strappy Back Bralette Top and Strappy Bottoms are still available at Target. Not only are they available, but they are bogo so you can buy one get one half off. You cannot beat that! That is why I love Target!!
Ready for Swimsuits
Swimsuit shopping is a favorite of mine. Over the years I have been able to shop and find perfect swimsuits for my body type. I am so happy that you can buy swimsuit tops and bottoms in different sizes.
I remember being young and whatever size I got in the top I had to buy in the bottom. As I got older and could shop at Victoria’s Secret things changed. I could buy swimsuit pieces separately and buy the correct size for top and bottom.
When I buy swimsuits I want something that is stylish but also functional. I like to take part in activities. I love paddle boarding and snorkeling in Turks and Caicos. While in Turks and Caicos we live in the water from sun up to sun down. I want a swimsuit that makes me feel comfortable. I want something that I can swim and let go and not worry about exposing myself.
I know that the teeny tiny bottoms are popular right now but those are just not for me. My behind likes to have coverage. I like more of a variety in tops. I want them to fit just right so that I am comfortable and not worried about exposure.
My favorite places to buy swimsuits are Victoria’s Secret and Target. I have also purchased a couple of swimsuits from Venus over the years. Over the past several years American Eagle has started carrying swimsuits. They have cute ones but they do not fit me well. I think they are better suited for young teenage girls.
Just recently I came across the swimsuits at Altar’d State. They had a great selection. I will be keeping my eye on them from now on.
If you are into splurging, I would suggest LSpace or Jessie James Decker’s line at Amore and Sorvete. I have never purchased one but they are so cute. I am just nervous about the bottoms. I wish she offered options that covered a little more bum.
I hope this post helps give you some ideas while swimsuit shopping this year. Summer is fast approaching and cannot get here fast enough!
