Skin Care and Make Up
Happy New Year everyone!! I took a couple of weeks off from blogging but am excited to getting started again. The new year is when we all start making resolutions and setting goals for ourselves. My goals for the new year are to be healthy, be the best version of me, be kind, and make lots of memories (hopefully on lots of vacations -ha).
Anyway, If you know me, you know that I love skin care and makeup products. I have friends and family that will often text me and ask me if I have used this or that because they know that I probably have. Anyway, over the past couple of months my skin care routine and the products I use has changed a little. I will say that I am completely obsessed with the new products that I am currently using.
Let’s Talk Face Masks
Let me start by saying that all face masks are NOT created equal. I love a good face mask and I can go ahead and tell you that the cheap face masks are typically nothing compared to good quality face mask. Generally, I will only do a face mask once or twice per week. For a while, I used the Glam Glow GRAVITYMUD Firming Treatment. I like this mask….do not get me wrong…but…then I starting using the Charlotte Tilbury Goddess Skin Clay Mask. I LOVE the Charlotte Tilbury mask. It is honestly amazing…even my husband loves it but shh…don’t tell him I told.
Both of these masks are on the pricier end of things. The Glam Glow mask is $69 and the Charlotte Tilbury mask is $55. I will say that neither masks comes in a large bottle. They are both actually pretty small…but they go along way. The Charlotte Tilbury Goddess Skin Mask is 2.5 oz and the GLAMGLOW GRAVITYMUD Firming Treatment is 1.7 oz. The amount is small and the price is high….but who cares if the product works and goes a long way?!?
Okay….so I am not super picky when it comes to a face wash. I have several that I love and I still have some that I would like to try. Months ago, I was told that if I needed a quick skin tightening treatment to rub fresh pineapple juice on my face. After I was told this I of course started researching the benefits of pineapples for your skin. So…while reading about the benefits I came across Alba Botanica Hawaiian Enzyme Face Cleanser, Pineapple. I of course bought it and I actually like it. It is very gentle and does make my face feel tight. I am now on my second bottle and will most likely buy more. Oh, and you can get it on Amazon and it is super cheap at only around $12.
Another face cleanser I love is the GLAMGLOW YOUTHCLEANSE Daily Exfoliating Cleanser. For a long time, I used this cleanser every day but then figured out that I was “over exfoliating.” The GLAMGLOW cleanser is more expensive at $42 per bottle but it does go a long way. They will occasionally have sales and I will stock up during that time.
One more cleanser that is great is the iS Clinical Cleansing Complex. It is a great mild cleanser and is the same cost as the GLAMGLOW.
Face Serums & Moisturizers
Retinol, Retinol, Retinol…..if you are not using a retinol….you should be. I swear my skin really changed when I started using retinol. For the longest I used Obagi Retinol 1.0. Then…I discovered Resurface by Shani Darden Retinol Reform. The Obagi Retinol is less expensive but I like the Shani Darden better. The Shani Darden Retinol is more expensive at $95. But…like I have said before….I do not mind paying a higher cost for – first my skin and second something that works. Oh, and it is a celeb favorite. I first heard about the Shani Darden Retinol when reading The Honest Life by Jessica Alba. This retinol is one product she swears by and she has great skin…so I had to try it.
Next, Vitamin C and Antioxidants are so important for your skin. Dr. Dennis Gross C + Collagen Brighten and Firm Serum is a combination of Vitamin C, antioxidants, and amino acids. Again, this serum is on the pricey side at $78 but so worth it.
I have combination dry skin, therefore, moisturizers are really important to me. I like a good moisturizer to put on at night and in the mornings. For my morning routine, I like something that is moisturizing but not greasy. I like to feel hydrated, not greasy. The Dr. Dennis Gross Hydra Pure Oil Free Moisture is great. It is hydrating without being too intense. At night, I like the Alba Botanica Even Advanced Night Cream.
At Home Peels
I love at home peels. Would I love to go get a facial/peel all the time…yes. However, realistically, I just do not get facials that often. So…for me it is important to do at home peels. I have the Skin Obsession 40% Glycolic Acid Peel and the 25% TCA Peel. Both peels are okay…nothing over the top..but good and average. My skin tolerates both very well. I originally started using these peels for the melasma on my upper lip. My skin is softer after using these, but I honestly cannot see a change in the darkness above my lip. Oh and these products are super cheap. Both are $30 and under.
A couple of months ago, I ordered some beauty products online and a sample of Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peel packets came with the package. At the beginning of December, a few nights before my husband’s work Christmas party, I decided to try my sample. I did the peel packet like three days before and then the day before I did the Charlotte Tilbury mask. I knew quickly that after the peel my skin felt amazing. Then I did the mask which I knew I loved.
Anyway…several days later my husband gets an email from one of his bosses wives (who also works for the company) asking about my skin. She told him that if I noticed her staring it was because she was looking at my skin. She went on to say that my skin was “glowing” and that I had supermodel skin and she wanted to know what I used. This made me feel soo good and was such a nice compliment to receive from someone I do not even know. It made me feel that all the money and time that I invest in my skin care routine was actually working.
Needless to say, I still use the peel packets and will continue to use them. Like most of Dr.Dennis Gross products, they are pricey…but again…so worth it.
Foundation and Concealer
The last thing I am going to talk about today are my favorite foundations and concealers. At any given time, I will have 2-3 foundations in my drawer and 2-3 concealers in my drawer.
For days that I want a “glow” I use Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. This foundation is a medium coverage but is buildable if you need more of a full coverage. I like lightweight foundation so I do not mind the medium coverage. I am currently using the color 5.5 Medium Neutral. This foundation is pricey but is so GOOD. S
My next favorite foundation is the Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick. This is a great go to foundation and I have been using it for years. It is more full coverage but it does not feel heavy on your skin. My color in this is natural tan 4.25. This foundation is cheaper at $46 vs over $60 for the Giorgio Armani.
For concealers I love the Make Up For Ever Full Cover Concealer. This has been my go to for years. It is $34 and lasts me a really long time. I also use the Giorgio Armani High Precision Retouch Illuminating Concealer. This concealer is a little pricier than the Make Up For Ever at $40. For the Giorigio Armani I use the #3.
I feel like the difference in the two is that the Make Up For Ever sits on top of the skin and the Giorgio Armani blends into the skin. I hope that makes sense. As I mentioned, I like both…it just depends on my mood for what I use that day.
As for powder, I love the Nars Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder.
Skin Care Routine
Now that I have discussed all of my favorite products…I will list what I do in a shorter format….
- Cleanse my face
- Dr. Dennis Gross C + Collagen Brighten Firm Serum
- Dr. Dennis Gross Moisturizer
- Cleanse my face
- Retinol Reform
Peel Packets: 1-2 times per week
Face Mask: 1-2 times per week
PS – I usually use the vitamin C serum for my eye cream. For some reason I seem to let myself run out of my eye cream and take forever to order more…so I end up using the serum I have for my face. As for a toner, I love the FoxBrim Orange Blossom Water Toner.
I hope that my skin care routine helps you with yours. As my husband says…I am obsessed. There are a handful of things that I do not mind spending good money on and skin care is one of those things. The way I see it…I would rather spend the money trying to prevent vs having to spend money to reverse later on.
