Restaurants in Memphis
There are so many different restaurants in Memphis, TN. I live in Mississippi and live about 2 1/2 hours from Memphis. Memphis is where we typically go for Target runs or the zoo…things like that. Christopher recently turned 32, so for his birthday he chose to go to Flight in Memphis to celebrate.
Celebrating Christopher’s Birthday
When he chose to go to Flight in Memphis for his birthday I was actually pretty excited. We have always talked about going there but never have. So, we got a trip together that included his parents and some friends.
We left early afternoon and visited the Bass Pro Shop Pyramid. The Bass Pro Shop is so not my thing but hey, it is his birthday. I will admit that the store is really cool and they do have an awesome selection of sunglasses…which I have a weakness for.
We spent about 30 minutes in Bass Pro before heading over to flight. I made pretty early reservations since we had to drive almost 3 hours home.
If you plan a trip to flight, I do recommend getting reservations. I booked ours three days in advance and almost did not get a table. We had to sit in the wine cellar vs the main dining area – which was completely fine.
We arrived on time and they seated us promptly. Oh, and they do have complimentary valet parking!!
Appetizers at Flight
Ordering from the menu at Flight can be a little tricky if it is your first time. In fact, it can be somewhat overwhelming.
There is so much to choose from and most things are arranged by “flights.” For example, they have an Ocean Flight which includes three small dishes that equals one normal size appetizer.
My in-laws actually ordered the Ocean Flight and enjoyed it.
Christopher and I did not do a flight for our appetizer but instead ordered the Charcuterie Plate and it was AWESOME. I would go back to flight just for this. Often times in fine dining restaurants you order a cheese plate and it is tiny. Well, not this one. It was filled with some many great things. We actually completed cleared it off in minutes. Gosh…it was so so good!!
Wine & Liquor Flights
Christopher got a wine flight and my mother in law got a champagne flight. Both enjoyed. They also have a liquor flight. For the wine/champagne flights you get three glasses that equal one full glass. For the liquor flights…you get three samples that are equivalent to one shot (heads up).
Soup & Salad
They have awesome soup and salad flights. In fact, one of our friends got this and it looked amazing. The next time I go back…this is what I will get.
There are so many main dishes to choose from. Please note that when you get a flight for your main meal…you will get three plates of food – a meat and a side. These three plates will equal one normal size entree. When looking at prices of flights…you will see a price next to each plate. So, each plate is typically anywhere from $14-$16 per plate and you get three. If you want to just order the full size entree (no flights) you can do that as well.
You can also mix and match entrees, which is what we did. We ordered the wild boar tenderloin, boursin stuffed filet, and elk tenderloin. All three were wonderful.
If you look at my picture…from left to right – boursin stuffed filet, elk tenderloin, and wild boar tenderloin. The wild boar was our favorite. It is topped with wild berry compote and is amazing.
Who doesn’t love a flight of different desserts. I would seriously go to flight just for the desserts.
The desserts on the menu are the only thing that are not “smaller” sizes that equal one normal size. Each dessert is a full size dessert. Because it was Christopher’s birthday, they actually gave him a complimentary creme brulee that was so good.
For our flight of dessert we ordered the blondie, chocolate chip cookie, and apple walnut cobbler. I actually did not care for the blondie and would not order it again. I did love the other two, however, the cobbler was my favorite of the three.
It took us a little over two hours at flight. Overall, I loved it and would certainly go back and recommend it. It is a perfect place for any type of celebration. The service is impeccable. The food is great and has a nice presentation…what more could you ask for!!
Again, there are tons of restaurants in Memphis and Flight is at the top of that list.
After leaving Flight, we walked down to Beale street. Our friends were shocked that we had never been to Beale street. We have traveled all over but never really explored Memphis. I mean…I didn’t realize Beale street was like it was. However, I will also say that I will not be going back. Many areas of Memphis are dangerous with a pretty high crime rate. So, I was good with making one loop through Beale Street and leaving. It is certainly not my scene. But hey…each to his own!
