Party Decorations DIY
My mom turned 60 years old in August. I love a good party so we gave her a small, family only, birthday party at my house. When we built our house a couple of years ago, a large porch was a necessity. I wanted a place to host parties outdoors – rain or shine.
I decided to do a party decorations DIY post because hosting a party is so easy and fun. It really does not have to be stressful and does not have to be costly.
Of course we asked my mom what food she wanted for her party. She loves the bacon chicken wraps that Christopher does. So, for her party, we did bacon wrapped chicken bites, broccoli salad, twice baked potatoes, rolls (because she cannot do without bread) and cake.
Keeping party food simple is the key. I made the broccoli salad and chicken bites ahead of time. Then, all Christopher had to do was grill the chicken. For the potatoes, I put them in the oven and had them ready to go – minus melting the cheese on top.
We ordered the cake from a local bakery – Sugar Daddy Bake Shop. I wanted a flower theme because she loves her yard and flowers. The cake was cute and DELICIOUS. It was chocolate on the inside with buttercream on the outside…truly to die for.
Christopher’s family always has white cakes (yuck) so I like when my family has an occasion because we all like chocolate. I always joke with his family about their nasty white cakes.
Decorating the Table
Since we have moved into our new house…we still have not built a serving type table for the back porch. So, I brought an interior table outside for the night. I like to have a separate table to sit the food on. I simply used an old piece of burlap for the top of the table. You can get burlap super cheap from a local fabric store or like Hobby Lobby. The food was served on McCarty pottery and recycled glass dishes.
As for the flowers, I just cut some from our garden and around the house and put them in a vase and then kept them in the refrigerator until party time. For the cake stand I used my Europe 2 You wooden stand. I believe it is actually a cheese board but I use it for all types of decor type things.
Happy Birthday Banner
I ordered the “Happy Birthday” sign from Amazon for under $10.
Again, having a party doesn’t have to be stressful. My party decorations DIY are so simple and so is my food. I hope the next time you have a party my tips will help make it perfect.
As you can see ↓ my momma didn’t realize we were actually having a party so she showed up in her t-shirt, no makeup, and pony tail look – haha.
The next party we will be having is my daddy’s surprise party for his 70th birthday…shhh…don’t tell!!! He’s a socialite and has so many friends that we thought a bigger type party would better fit him.
