Mother’s Day 2016
Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body. ~Elizabeth Stone
Mother’s Day is right around the corner. You have about two weeks to decide on the perfect gift for your mom. If you are like me, now is about the time when you start realizing that Mother’s Day is almost here. You are wondering what in the world you are going to get for your mom.
My sister and I always have trouble deciding what we are going to get our mom. The conversation is the same each year. It always starts off like “what do you think we should get momma this year?” My response is always “I have no idea.” I mean, what do you get someone who pretty much has everything and buys what she wants when she wants it.
My sister and I typically go in together and get her gift. This allows us to get her something that is nicer. Our budget is higher together than if we were to buy her something individually.
When deciding about what I would write about today, I knew that I wanted to write about Mother’s Day. I thought today would be the perfect day to go over gift ideas for mom.
In this list I am including some of my favorite items. You will find a variety of items that will fit into a variety of budgets. I have included outdoor items, home decor, jewelry, ane more. I hope this list helps you find the perfect gift for your mom.
Gift Ideas for Mom
- Outdoor Bed Swing
- Ronaldo Bracelet
- Potted Plants
- Wind Chimes
- Hobo Purse
- Hobo Wallet
Outdoor Bed Swing
If you mom has a large back porch and loves being outdoors, then this will be a great gift for her. Bed swings are popular right now and look great in an outdoor living space. Vintage Porch Swings offers a large variety of porch swings to suit all styles and tastes.
My two favorite porch swings include the Joshua and the Emerson. I love the simplicity of both styles. I also love the vintage white with distressing. Both bed swings are twin sized and will fit perfectly in an outdoor living space.
If the Joshua and Emerson are not your style, then check out Vintage Porch Swings for more styles. They are sure to have something that your mom would love. They have a variety of styles and colors to choose from.
With this item you are going to need a little more than a couple of weeks to get it. You could always print off a picture of it for your mom and tell her it will “be here soon.”
Ronaldo Bracelets are classic bracelets that fit all styles and personalities. These bracelets look great paired with other Ronaldo Bracelets and other styles of bracelets.
They come in gold, silver, and mixed. You can buy them with stones and even get them customized. A Ronaldo is something that your mom will have for years to come.
A great Ronaldo Bracelet to start with for your mom is the “There’s Only One Mom” bracelet. This item includes your mom’s birthstone in the center. It comes in a variety of sizes and comes in both silver and gold. I prefer gold in this bracelet. But, both are great.
Another great Ronaldo item is the “Intertwine Gift Set.” With this set you actually get three beautiful bracelets that are gold and silver mixed.
Ronaldo Bracelets are simple and classy bracelets. They are dainty and made of high quality materials.
If you mom is anything like mine, then you can’t go wrong with flowers and plants. Mother’s Day is in May so flowers are always a good idea. You can go to your local nursery and they can fix you up a nice hanging basket or flower pot.
I love gardening and flowers, so I will often go and pick out my own plants and build a flower pot for my mom. My favorite flowers are Geraniums, Asparagus Ferns, Dragon Leaf Begonias, different grasses, Sweet Potato Vine, and Coleus.
You can do a small pot that includes a Geranium and an Asparagus Fern. You can do a larger pot that has grass, Sweet Potato Vine, and Coleus. When doing a pot like this, I like to mix different colors of green and purple. By mid summer, this pot is beautiful.
You can spend as little or as much as you want on these items. You can find hanging baskets for as cheap as $10-$15. You can also spend as much $50-$60 on a large pot of different flowers. Your local nursery or Lowe’s will also have pots and hanging baskets already made up. You can just walk in and buy. But, do not wait until the last minute on this one. They sell out fast at Mother’s Day.
Most moms love flowers so I would say you cannot go wrong with this item.
I know, I know. Most of this list involves outdoor type items. My mom loves the outdoors and so do I so these are the type items I tend to lean towards. I mean, it’s May, it is warm weather, it is time for all things outdoors.
Wind Chimes are a great addition to your mom’s porch. I love to hear my wind chimes chime. The best part of a storm coming is hearing the sound of the wind chimes. You can buy bamboo wind chimes and also the metal type. The bamboo sound great but I personally prefer the metal ones. They seem to be louder and I just prefer the sound they provide over the bamboo sound.
You can find wind chimes in a variety of prices. They range from $50-$200, depending on the size and type of the wind chime. The Amazing Grace Wind Chime is one of my favorites and is $156. The Amazing Grace Chime also comes in different sizes that are under $100.
Hobo Purse and Wallet
If your mom is not the “outdoor” type, then you can buy her a stylish purse and/or wallet. Hobo has a great line of bags and wallets. They are made of quality materials and come in a large selection of styles and colors.
The Patti Tote Bag is a great bag for your mom. It has a shoulder strap and has lots of room. My mom prefers a handbag that she can wear on her shoulder. This is the perfect bag for that.
It comes in a variety of great colors. If I am spending this much money on a handbag, then I like to make sure I buy a neutral color. I want a bag that I can carry all seasons if I want. The Patti tote is $248.
Next, we have the Hobo Wallets. A Hobo Wallet is a great wallet that lasts forever. It is also cheaper than a handbag. If you budget is a bit lower, then this is a great item for you to buy for your mom.
I have had my Hobo wallet for at least 8 years and it still functions as it is suppose to and pretty much looks brand new. I love all the pockets and spaces that a Hobo wallet has to offer.
You cannot go wrong with the Rachel wallet. It comes in a variety of colors. As always, I prefer the neutral colors. This wallet is $128, which makes it much more affordable than a handbag or tote.
I could not do a list of gifts and not include sunglasses. My husband and I have a thing for sunglasses. We each get a new pair of sunglasses for at least one holiday, maybe two per year. I think we gave each other sunglasses every year for Christmas for like 5 years.
A classic pair of Wayfarers is always a great choice when you are uncertain of which style to buy. My mom has a pair of wayfarers that she loves. My husband and I also have wayfarers.
They are my go to pair of sunglasses. Ray-Ban offers some great wayfarer styles. My favorites are the Wayfarer Light Ray, The Original Wayfarer Classic, and the Erika Classic. All these styles are under $250.
All moms can use a day of pampering. You can give your mom a gift card for a massage, a pedicure, a manicure, or all the above. I think it is safe to say that a massage is always a welcomed gift. Depending on where you live, massages start at $50 and go up depending on the package that you choose.
My favorite brands of pottery includes McCarty and Peter’s Pottery. I have both in my home. They are similar and I enjoy mixing the pieces. My favorite pottery pieces include the vases and large bowls. I also love the serving items.
If you mom loves things for her home, then she will love a great piece of pottery. Pottery is one of those things that lasts forever. It can be passed down from generation to generation.
My husband gives me a piece of pottery every year on our anniversary. He writes which anniversary it is on the bottom in a Sharpie. This is something that we hope to pass down to our kids someday.
McCarty and Peters are my favorite pottery brands. But, if you mom has her favorite brand then I suggest that you stick to that. Also, if you mom loves pottery but hasn’t started her collection, you an start it for her this year.
A great piece to start with is the Round Ball Vase in nutmeg. It is great to stick with neutral colors so that as styles change, the pottery can stay and always match.
Pottery ranges anywhere from $20 and up. You can even find some styles that are below that. It just depends on the type of piece you are purchasing.
Having a low budge doesn’t mean you love your mom any less. After all, Mother’s Day is not about how much you spend but rather about honoring your mom. Do not stress if you only have a small amount to spend.
Most mom’s love to cook. A great cookbook is something that your mom can use over and over again. In Misssippi we love to cook and love soul food. You really cannot beat good ole southern cooking. The Deep South Dish cookbook will be a great addition to your mom’s kitchen.
This is a practical, affordable gift that your mom will use. You will even get to enjoy the benefits of it!
The Best Gift of All
There are so many wonderful gifts that you can buy for your mom. Yet, the best gift of all is free. The best gift you can give to your mom is just spending quality time with her and letting her know that you love her. Adding in a gift is just a special little bonus for her.
A mom is priceless. Never take that for granted.
I hope this list helps you find the perfect gift for your mom this Mother’s day! Happy Mother’s day to all your mothers out there!
