Getting pregnant for me meant making sure I was taking care of myself inside and out. I immediately bought items for my skin and for stretch mark prevention. Being healthy on the inside was also of top concern. I am a clean eater most of the time and workout routinely but wanted to make sure these things remained a top priority for me.
One of the most common complaints of new parents is not getting enough sleep. So, next to my health and nutrition and stretch mark prevention, I wanted to buy something that might help with sleeping after baby arrives.
1. Stretch Mark Prevention Oils & Lotions
The first thing I bought when I found out I was pregnancy was lotions/oils to prevent stretch marks. I starting using Bio Oil at night and a lotion during the day. For my lotions – I started out with Mama Mia Tummy Rub Butter. Then, when that ran out I started using Palmer’s Cocoa Butter, and after that Earth Mama Belly Butter.
The Bio Oil is the one thing I never changed – until I found Almond Oil. I am now obsessed with the almond oil for stretch mark prevention. Oh, and it is so much cheaper and the bottle is larger which means it lasts longer. However, for the lotions – I will say that I will not buy the Mama Mio again because I used it up so quickly and it is somewhat pricey. I feel like the cocoa butter or Earth Mama is just as good. I will say that since finding the almond oil – it is all I use – day and night.
The important thing when it comes to stretch mark prevention is just making sure you keep everything moisturized. I literally slather the oils and lotions on from above my boobs to my mid/upper thighs.
There are studies that say stretch marks are genetic. If you your mom has them, you probably will too. If she doesn’t you probably won’t. My momma has no stretch marks so I hope I take after her. However, I am going to do everything that I’ve read helps….just in case. I’d rather do everything I can and get stretch marks knowing I did everything vs do nothing and get them and then wonder what if I had tried this or that.
I know, I know….stretch marks represent a beautiful little baby but I still want to prevent if I can.
2. Healthy Smoothies During Pregnancy
My healthy smoothies are the one thing that I forced upon myself during my times of extreme nausea. However, with that being said, this cold drink was something I enjoyed most days. Drinking one of these each morning – even if it took a while to get down – made me feel better about myself.
I knew that with these I was fueling my body with great nutrition. I drank these before pregnancy and have not missed one during pregnancy. I always recommend the vegan options for during pregnancy. My favorite at the beginning was the vegan tropical strawberry but now it is the chocolate or cafe latte. Vanilla is my least favorite and then the strawberry next to that. The chocolate and cafe latte in the vegan are my favorites.
3. At Home Workouts During Pregnancy
Going to the gym before pregnancy can be a challenge. Going to the gym during pregnancy is even harder. This is why I live for my at home workouts. I cannot imagine having to drive to the gym to workout. I’ve been doing at home workouts for quite some time now. Now that I am pregnant, it is even easier to fit a workout in at home vs having to get out and go somewhere.
Prior to getting pregnant I was actually doing a particular program with the meal plan and was in the best shape I’ve ever been in. Now that I am pregnant, I am not following a certain program or meal plan. Instead, I have access to 100s of workouts with my yearly membership so I just choose which workout I want to do each day. I typically split my time with lower body and upper body workouts and also choose workouts that are 30 minutes or less.
When I first started these workouts I started with a challenge pack because that gave me the most bang for my buck.
Here is what I recommend if you are interested:
With this package you save over $100 by bundling them together. It seems expensive…I know. However, think about what you would pay for a gym membership for a year. With this, you can stream 100s of workouts for year. Not only do you get workouts, but you get a coach (me), a 30 day supply of Shakeology, and portion fix containers.
In additional to all these things – you will get added to my private fitness group where we support one another and talk all things fitness, nutrition, and everything in between.
4. The Snoo – Smart Bassinet
Okay, so a couple of years ago I ran across this thing called The Snoo. The Snoo is a “smart bassinet.” From the moment I saw it, I knew that when we had a baby….I would have to have it. So, this was the first purchase we made for our little man (and for us).
I cannot give a review of it just yet because we need him to use it. However, I am so excited to have it and cannot wait to try it out. The reviews on it are awesome and I hope it works as well for us as it has for so many others that love it. Oh, and it is so sleek and cool and looks great sitting in the nursery.
As you can see, my main focus when I found out I was pregnant was to stay on top of my health, prevent stretch marks, and get sleep when baby arrives. The oils and creams help me keep my skin moisturized, the smoothies, eating right, and at home workouts keep me healthy and hopefully The Snoo will help baby sleep.
Stay tuned for my favorite pregnancy skincare products. I’m obsessed with skincare so you know I had to find safe alternatives to some of my favorite products.
